ABC/HR for Java, Version 0.5b, 18 mars 2006 Testname: waiting - sample18 Tester: guruboolez 1L = sample18\sample18_4.wav 2L = sample18\sample18_7.wav 3L = sample18\sample18_6.wav 4L = sample18\sample18_3.wav 5L = sample18\sample18_5.wav 6L = sample18\sample18_2.wav 7R = sample18\sample18_1.wav --------------------------------------- General Comments: there's nothing to differentiate. All AAC encodings are immediately betrayed, sound similar, are all crap. LC-AAC is obviously poorer; high anchor comes from another planet in comparison. End of the test. I'm very disappointed by it. I took a lot of time to try to differenciate different encoders at the beginning. It was boring, all difference are very subtle, balance is changing from part to part, rating is unsecure. I was close to cancel this test. I finally resume it, and tested 10 samples in 30 minutes. Results are the same: if a difference exists it's a very subtle one. Most often 2 files suffer from the same form of stereo madness - probably HE+PS encodings. Then three others are easy to recognize: more artefacts (grain, noise), but a stereo which doesn't give me a strong migraine. Are they better? Worse? Hard to say... Results are so irritating that I often felt some sympathy for LC-AAC, lowpassed by often clean in comparison. The last and remaining file is the high anchor, excellent, hence the 5/5 rating. Hardware: - AC97 onboard chip with poor output - Creative EP-630 earbuds (for the 8 first samples). I used both to simulate portable device listening conditions (in a quite place). - Philips SBC HP-910 headphone (for the 10 last samples), much better than Creative ones but it didn't helped me to separate the different encodings: either implementations have nearly the same quality or I'm completely unable to perform any evaluation for files having these kind of artefacts. --------------------------------------- 1L File: sample18\sample18_4.wav 1L Rating: 2.0 1L Comment: --------------------------------------- 2L File: sample18\sample18_7.wav 2L Rating: 1.3 2L Comment: --------------------------------------- 4L File: sample18\sample18_3.wav 4L Rating: 2.0 4L Comment: --------------------------------------- 5L File: sample18\sample18_5.wav 5L Rating: 2.0 5L Comment: --------------------------------------- 6L File: sample18\sample18_2.wav 6L Rating: 2.0 6L Comment: --------------------------------------- 7R File: sample18\sample18_1.wav 7R Rating: 2.0 7R Comment: --------------------------------------- ABX Results:
